2014 Individual Filing deadline extension to May 5, 2015

Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has announced to extend 2014 Individual income tax and benefit returns the filing deadline from April 30, 2015 to May 5, 2015.  There will be no late filing penalties to returns filed by midnight on May 5th.  Also, interest will not be charged on any amount owing for the 2014 tax year during the period from April 30, 2015 up to and including May 5, 2015.The extension is granted due to a communication error from the CRA.  On April 24, 215, the CRA issued a communication to some Canadians that referred to an incorrect filing deadline for 2014 tax returns of May 5, 2015, rather than April 30, 2015.  As a result, the CRA has announced to extent the deadline to May 5, 2015.For self-employed individuals and their spouses or common-law partners, the deadline to file their 2014 income tax and benefit returns is midnight on June 15, 2015, and any balance owing is due by April 30, 2015. However, interest will not be charged on any amount owing for 2014 during the period from April 30 up to and including May 5, 2015.In past, CRA has extended the filing deadline for 2013 Individual income tax and benefit returns to May 5, 2014 as well.  This was because of the internet security bug "Heartbleed Bug".  You can read more in our news section.(The posting is for information purposes only)
